Progress Log 18/12/15

Today we finished off our video. We have filled all of the gaps and put lots of special effects in to make our video look neat. We have also added a front page for the video and a credits page. We are excited for some feedback if we need any changes.

Draft 3 - Digipak

My teacher said that she didn't like the idea of the black and white effect on the front cover. I agreed with this and changed the image from black and white to colour. She also said to play around with more fonts on the back page. I have done this and am happy with the font decisions I have made. I also added the artists name to the front cover.

Website Draft 3

I took into consideration what my teacher said about my website. She stated that I needed to add more to my front page. Therefore I added, buttons, social media, a gallery and a title. I have also embed a music video, as my teacher suggested.

Progress Log - 17/12/15

This morning we continued to work on our music video. We have created a second draft video, however we found that it glitched. Before we upload the next video we will get help with the glitching. We are happy with the position we are in, and will continue to work hard on finishing it and adding special effects.

First Full Draft of my James Bay Website 15/12/2015

http://ellacroft98.wix.com/jamesbay
This is my first full draft of my website. I took note of what I found out from my peers from when I did my audience feedback. For example Tom said he loved my front page image however the background was too bright. I adapted the image so that the background was the same colour as my website background. Sally mentioned that the tour date looked messy as the word "Birmingham" had been cut in half. I reduced the font size to make the page look neater.

Draft 2 of my Digipak 15/12/2015

This is my second draft of my digipak. I am much happier with this than I was with my first attempt. I took what Verity said and agreed that I need more of a variety of shots. Therefore, I took out the images where he was facing to and from the camera and replaced them with different images. I also followed her idea of sticking to the dark theme of black. I decided to play around with the front cover adding "CHAOS AND CALM" to it to show that it was the cover. I decided to use different fonts for "Chaos" and "Calm" to show the difference in how he feels as an artist. I used a funkier font for "Chaos" to show the crazy aspect of his life. I then used a laid back font for "Calm" to show he is chilled out. For the back cover I used an image that makes it look like he is looking at the song list. I used a simple white font for the list of songs. I decided to use a scenery shot for the CD its self as I wanted to show other things than just himself. I then put a simple black background behind it to follow on with the black colour scheme. This is my first full draft of my digpack.

Progress Report 15/12/15

Today we edited and uploaded the footage we shot over the past couple days. We have begun to put the footage into the music video and we are very happy with the outcome. I have also started to work on my digipak a bit more.

Dolby

I like how you have got some audience feedback on the ancillaries and the main task- it might be worth thinking now about the evaluation questions and how you can present the feedback you have got in an interesting form.

Progress log 14/12/15

Today, we went out and filmed more of our music video. We managed to capture a more romantic side of the couple as well as the scene where they break up. I am excited to put this in our music video to see how it all works together. Over the weekend we also got more shots of the girl crying to show how she is upset about the break up.

Progress Log 11'12'15

Today, we did more filming for our music video. We took the female character out into a woodlands scenery and got her to have a couple emotional moments on camera. We will use this in the music video to show to the audience that the couple had sadly broke up.

Progress Log 10/12/15

From the audience feedback we received we noticed that both pupils said that the story line they saw was that they were in a relationship and ended up breaking up. We now understand where they are getting this from, so we have decided to edit our video so the story line is ... they were together, they then broke up and then got together again. The audience feedback really helped as they also gave us editing ideas such as making the colour change less drastic. We will take everything they said into consideration. To see what they said go on to the group blog.

When we were watching our video we noticed that some scenes now don't make sense. To fix this problem we decided to delete the scene and have now made a plan to re film certain bits on Monday. We need to make sure we get more shots of the couple being romantically involved, as well as the scene where they break up. Aaron mentioned that he wanted to see the main singer putting more effort into the lyrics and we agree. So, we are going to re film him singing the whole song so we can replace the bits that aren't as good.

Progress Log - 09/12/15

Today I worked a little more on my ancillary task as well as looking over our first draft of the video to see if I could understand the story-line.

Website Draft 1

This is my front page of my website. I really like the image I have chosen for the opening of my website as its simple but intense as this image uses the direct gaze effect to draw the viewer in. The house style for this website is black, white, and grey with a little colours in the images.

This page is my tour dates page. I have used a grey background to follow my house style. This page is all about upcoming events. I love the image of this page as he is positioned slightly to the right of the information. I decided to integrate the "Brighton" text with him as that's where he went to university, so it is close to his heart,

This page is for fans to learn a bit about him. I did some research into James Bay and then created a page for him in my own words, so it looks like he is talking about himself. I also have a moving album at the bottom of the page which consists of 5 pictures of him.

This page is a gallery of him. I have decided to do this page as it shows off my photography skills as well as my photo editing skills. This page will also be really good for my target audience.

Website first draft feedback form target audience

Tom - aged 17
Home page - "I love the image you have chosen, however it looks to bright against the black background so maybe you could bring the brightness down a little bit."
Tour Dates - "I really like the layout of the page. Only thing I could say is to work on the buttons a little. For example working on the colour and the transparency as well as putting the correct information on it for example "book now."
About - "The information is perfect for your target audience and the images at the bottom look great! If I had to change something I would change the background to make it more interesting than just grey."
Gallery - "The layout of the images is spot on and the moving background is really interesting. I really like this page."

Sally - aged 18
Home Page - "I like the image but maybe you could play around with colouring for example try black and white to keep with your house style."
Tour Dates - "I like this page, however look at your font size as the "Birmingham" tour has half the word cut off. It doesnt look tidy."
About - "I agree with Tom the background isn't popping out enough."
Gallery - "I like it, maybe you could keep the filters used consistent instead of using so many different ones."

Digipak Draft 1

This is my first draft of my digipak. I would like to have a running house style of black and white on every picture. I will use a white easy to read font for the songs. I am not 100% sure about what I will do for the CD image. I asked one f my fellow students to give advise for my digipak.

Verity - Aged 18 - I like the black and white theme this looks really good for all the images. I agree that the image on the inside should be a close up. The one thing I am not sure on is the main singer facing away from the camera. In addition to this you aren't showing your photography skills when you use the same type of image twice.

I took this into consideration when starting my second draft,

Progress Report 08/12/15 - Morning

This morning we continued to edit our video. We took into consideration the feedback we got from our teacher. She said she loved our superimposition with the flashbacks. Taking this in, we decided to use the superimposition of his eyes in every flashback with the girl. This way, we are making it completely clear to the audience that he is thinking about her from when they were together.

Progress Report 07/12/2015

After we received the feedback from the teachers we decided that we needed to get some audience feedback from our target audience. This is to get their opinion on what they think the story line is. This will really help us when we edit our storyline. We are looking to get one girl and one boy to watch the music video and give us feedback. This will take place tomorrow.

Music Video Feedback

My teacher looked at our first draft of our music video. She said that she was very impressed with the different types of shots that we had and the attention to framing. However there are a couple things we need to work on for example the quality of shots, editing and our story line. To improve our quality of some of the images we are going to use a different camera and different lighting to make it look more professional. To improve our editing we are going to use more transitions to make the video flow easier, as well as using effects to show our skills. And lastly, to improve our story line we are going to do a focus group of our target audience to see what they think about our music video and what we could improve to make it make more sense.

Progress log 03/12/2015

I have started to work on my website. I have edited this photo to bring his face out of the darkness  more. This is to essence his facial features. I am still working on the layout of my website, however I am happy with the stage I am at now.

Progress Log 02/12/2015

I have completed my photoshoot so I am now ready to begin my website and digipak.

These are some of the images I am thinking about putting into my ancillary task. I love the look of the black background so i think i will stick to that running through y website and my digipak.

Dolby

Lots of work to show your progress here. Consider the audience and focus group feedback in a bit more detail as this is potentially very useful date- reflect and maybe think about audience a bit more throughout the project as a whole.

Progress log 1/11/15

In our lesson we worked on our music video some more. We are coming to the point where we just need to tweak certain things as the content is almost there. Today we cam across a problem as about 15 seconds of our music video had been deleted. We did not panic we decided to re-do the section and we feel that we may have even made it better. Later on today I am holding my photo shoot for the ancillary task. Once I am happy with the images I will begin to put them on my website and digipak.

Progress Report 30/12/15

I am now working on my website. I have started setting out the layout however I cannot put the images in until I have edited them from the photo shoot which will take place tomorrow.

27/11/15

Today we began to take our editing skills to the next level. We decided to edit the filter of our flashbacks as the desaturate effect. This gives them a vintage feel, making it easy for the audience to understand those clips were from the past. We will do this on all of the flashbacks and maybe add more effects.

Progress Report - 26/11/15

Today we continued to edit our videos. We are beginning to put special effects on our video as we have put the majority of the video in place. Here are some screenshots from our project.

I have also scheduled my photo shoot for Tuesday the 1st of December. I will upload some pictures once the photo shoot is complete, and then begin my ancillary task.

24/11/15 - progress report

Today we continued to edit our music video. We have also planning our photo shoot for Thursday the 26th of November. Once this is completed we will be able to start our ancillary task.

Focus Group Analysis

We decided to do a focus group of our target audience to get feedback on out idea. We used two 17 year old boys and two 17 year old girls. The feedback we received was extremely helpful as they guided us in the right direction. The main concept they pushed for was for the male singer to be most important, which we agreed with as that is who we are selling and it is very important for the female side of our target audience to see a good looking singer. All in all the focus group was extremely helpful as they not only praised our ideas, they all gave us constructive criticism which has polished off our ideas.

19/11/2015 - progress report

At the moment we are focusing primarily on the editing of our music video. Our music video is going really well at the moment. I am planning my photo shoot at the moment. I am thinking about types of shots, colour schemes, locations, and when this photo shoot is going to take place. I will upload my photo shoot progress shortly.

Digipak Planning

Front Page
I will use the same image I used for my poster for the front cover of my digipak. I need to get an image which grabs the audience’s attention, as well as showing what kind of music James Bay does. For example I wouldn’t have a pink colour scheme as that could imply pop. I am thinking about doing a black and white theme where the background is black and he is white. This will look like a light is shining on him showing him coming out of the darkness. I will have his name “James Bay” underneath him going over his feet. I am hoping to get a mid-shot of him looking directly at the camera
Inside Cover
Here I will have a list of the songs he has in his album. These will be written in white with a black silhouette of him in the background. They will be written neatly down the left hand side numbered accordingly. I may do a close up of his face behind the righting or him walking away with the writing on top. I need to take my photos before I make this decision.
CD page
On this page I will have him playing his guitar looking down. This shot will be taken in the dark following my theme of black and white. The guitar will have the main focus in this image. Or I will do a close up of the artists face on the CD.
Back Cover
I will have the artist walking away from the camera so it contradicts the front page. It will be in black and white with the light shining from in front of him showing him walking into the light from behind. I will do a mid-shot so it is the same as the front page. Or I may even decide to do a long shot for both.

Examples

Poster Planning

I like the black and white effect on this poster and I think it will go well with my artist. I would probably only use one main imagine instead of two, which will take up the whole page with minimum writing to draw the audience into the image.

I like the close up of the artist in this one. I am thinking about using this type of shot in my poster because it would attract my target audience. I also like how the artist’s hair matches the colour of his name. This poster has a clear colour scheme of orange. I am hoping to have a clear colour scheme in mine.
I really like how this poster shows a clear colour scheme of pink by linking the writing to her hair colour. I will do the same in mine. I also like the mid shot as it shows off her facial expression, her hair, her outfit, and her jewelry which is good for her target audience. I believe the most powerful thing in this shot is the director’s gaze as it draws the audience in as it looks like she is looking at you.
I like how this poster has lots of different images on it showing each member of the band separately and them as a group. I also link the colour scheme of black, white and red this is a very bold colour scheme which brings the audience in. I also like how they have used close ups, mid shots, and long shots in this poster.

I have decided to do a mid-shot of my artist in black and white. My colour scheme will be blue, black, and white as these colours suit an Indie artist and my artist in particular. I will have the artist’s name “James Bay” integrating with him. For example having the “J” go over his hair. I won’t have a lot of writing on my poster as I want it to look simplistic, as I believe that James’s music is simple and relaxing. I will have him looking directly at the camera (director’s gaze) as that is the best way to attract his target audience (young females) as it looks like he is looking at them. I may have the background black and have him in white almost like a light is shining on his face showing he is coming out of the darkness.

Locations

Location List

As a group we have been looking at potential sights for our music video. We looked for places that suited and represented our main themes that we wanted to portray to our audience.

LOCATION 1:

We liked this location because how natural and calm the atmosphere we would be able to portray. It would work really well with the indie theme as we stick to the low budget approach they often go for in music videos. This location would be used for our present scenes and the flashback scenes as we want to show the audience how the friendship used to be in comparison to what it is like at the moment.

The location in the images has no restriction or rules with the use however, we need to keep in mind that as it is a public park there might be people walking about. The other issue that we may face is the weather for when we choose to shoot as rain would affect our cameras or make it difficult to shoot.

To overcome these two issues we will stop recording when people are walking about or be aware of their presences. Then with the weather we will make sure we check out the forecast in advance to ensure we reduce the chances of rain interfering.

LOCATION 2:

We liked this location due to unique appearance and how aesthetically pleasing it would be for the audience. This location is also very popular for students and young people and therefore it was very fitting to feature this location with our target audience in mind. The surroundings and colour schemes would also look very nice in black and white when we edit it as there are no harsh tones. We plan to use this location as part of the flashback to portray the friendship of the pair as the audience will make the assumption that it is romantic however we want to show that for the two it was a place for friends to hang out.

One of the problems we may face with this location is that because it is a business and privately owned we would need the managers permission to film here. Another thing we need to bear in mind is that there will be customers who may affect the shots we want or may not want to be filmed. Therefore, we need to be aware of this when we film.

To overcome the first issue, we had a discussion with the manager and she granted us permission to use her location. In return for the access to the shop, we will recognise her business in our video by having shots of the title.

We plan our film times to be for when the business is less busy like the morning or evening to avoid the customers and also not interfere with the day to day running's of the business.

LOCATION 3:

We have chosen to shoot some of our scenes outside this house and in the bedroom. The reason behind this choice was because we felt it suited our narrative of seeing James's life and that also involved his room. This location is very effective as we will be able to control many things like no passer-by and also the fact we can make changes in layout for the room to suit the scene. The bedroom would be a great location for the scene that involves an emotional James following his rejection and to capture him on his own strumming along the guitar. Also the bedroom is decorated to fit a male teenagers room and the audience can familiarise themselves with that and also clearly identify the location when watching.

LOCATION 4:

The local train station will be a great location to capture the opening and closing scene involving James and his love interest Oriana.
