27/11/15
Today we began to take our editing skills to the next level. We decided to edit the filter of our flashbacks as the desaturate effect. This gives them a vintage feel, making it easy for the audience to understand those clips were from the past. We will do this on all of the flashbacks and maybe add more effects.

Progress Report - 26/11/15
Today we continued to edit our videos. We are beginning to put special effects on our video as we have put the majority of the video in place. Here are some screenshots from our project.
I have also scheduled my photo shoot for Tuesday the 1st of December. I will upload some pictures once the photo shoot is complete, and then begin my ancillary task.

24/11/15 - progress report
Today we continued to edit our music video. We have also planning our photo shoot for Thursday the 26th of November. Once this is completed we will be able to start our ancillary task.
Focus Group Analysis
We decided to do a focus group of our target audience to get feedback on out idea. We used two 17 year old boys and two 17 year old girls. The feedback we received was extremely helpful as they guided us in the right direction. The main concept they pushed for was for the male singer to be most important, which we agreed with as that is who we are selling and it is very important for the female side of our target audience to see a good looking singer. All in all the focus group was extremely helpful as they not only praised our ideas, they all gave us constructive criticism which has polished off our ideas.

At the moment we are focusing primarily on the editing of our music video. Our music video is going really well at the moment. I am planning my photo shoot at the moment. I am thinking about types of shots, colour schemes, locations, and when this photo shoot is going to take place. I will upload my photo shoot progress shortly.

Digipak Planning
Front Page
I will use the same image I used for my poster for the front
cover of my digipak. I need to get an image which grabs the audience’s
attention, as well as showing what kind of music James Bay does. For example I
wouldn’t have a pink colour scheme as that could imply pop. I am thinking about
doing a black and white theme where the background is black and he is white.
This will look like a light is shining on him showing him coming out of the
darkness. I will have his name “James Bay” underneath him going over his feet.
I am hoping to get a mid-shot of him looking directly at the camera
Inside Cover
Here I will have a list of the songs he has in his album.
These will be written in white with a black silhouette of him in the
background. They will be written neatly down the left hand side numbered
accordingly. I may do a close up of his face behind the righting or him walking
away with the writing on top. I need to take my photos before I make this
decision.
CD page
On this page I will have him playing his guitar looking
down. This shot will be taken in the dark following my theme of black and
white. The guitar will have the main focus in this image. Or I will do a close
up of the artists face on the CD.
Back Cover
I will have the artist walking away from the camera so it
contradicts the front page. It will be in black and white with the light
shining from in front of him showing him walking into the light from behind. I
will do a mid-shot so it is the same as the front page. Or I may even decide to
do a long shot for both.
Poster Planning
I like the black and white effect on this poster and I think
it will go well with my artist. I would probably only use one main imagine
instead of two, which will take up the whole page with minimum writing to draw
the audience into the image.
I like the close up of the artist in this one. I am thinking
about using this type of shot in my poster because it would attract my target
audience. I also like how the artist’s hair matches the colour of his name.
This poster has a clear colour scheme of orange. I am hoping to have a clear
colour scheme in mine.
I really like how this poster shows a clear colour scheme of
pink by linking the writing to her hair colour. I will do the same in mine. I
also like the mid shot as it shows off her facial expression, her hair, her
outfit, and her jewelry which is good for her target audience. I believe the
most powerful thing in this shot is the director’s gaze as it draws the
audience in as it looks like she is looking at you.
I like how this poster has lots of different images on it
showing each member of the band separately and them as a group. I also link the
colour scheme of black, white and red this is a very bold colour scheme which
brings the audience in. I also like how they have used close ups, mid shots,
and long shots in this poster.
I have
decided to do a mid-shot of my artist in black and white. My colour scheme will
be blue, black, and white as these colours suit an Indie artist and my artist
in particular. I will have the artist’s name “James Bay” integrating with him.
For example having the “J” go over his hair. I won’t have a lot of writing on
my poster as I want it to look simplistic, as I believe that James’s music is
simple and relaxing. I will have him looking directly at the camera (director’s
gaze) as that is the best way to attract his target audience (young females) as
it looks like he is looking at them. I may have the background black and have
him in white almost like a light is shining on his face showing he is coming
out of the darkness.
Locations
Location List
As a group we have been looking at potential sights for our
music video. We looked for places that suited and represented our main themes
that we wanted to portray to our audience.
LOCATION 1:
We liked this location because how natural and calm the
atmosphere we would be able to portray. It would work really well with the
indie theme as we stick to the low budget approach they often go for in music
videos. This location would be used for our present scenes and the flashback
scenes as we want to show the audience how the friendship used to be in
comparison to what it is like at the moment.
The location in the images has no restriction or rules with
the use however, we need to keep in mind that as it is a public park there
might be people walking about. The other issue that we may face is the weather
for when we choose to shoot as rain would affect our cameras or make it
difficult to shoot.
To overcome these two issues we will stop recording when
people are walking about or be aware of their presences. Then with the weather
we will make sure we check out the forecast in advance to ensure we reduce the
chances of rain interfering.
LOCATION 2:
We liked this location due to unique appearance and how
aesthetically pleasing it would be for the audience. This location is also very
popular for students and young people and therefore it was very fitting to
feature this location with our target audience in mind. The surroundings and
colour schemes would also look very nice in black and white when we edit it as
there are no harsh tones. We plan to use this location as part of the flashback
to portray the friendship of the pair as the audience will make the assumption
that it is romantic however we want to show that for the two it was a place for
friends to hang out.
One of the problems we may face with this location is that
because it is a business and privately owned we would need the managers
permission to film here. Another thing we need to bear in mind is that there
will be customers who may affect the shots we want or may not want to be
filmed. Therefore, we need to be aware of this when we film.
To overcome the first issue, we had a discussion with the
manager and she granted us permission to use her location. In return for the
access to the shop, we will recognise her business in our video by having shots
of the title.
We plan our film times to be for when the business is less
busy like the morning or evening to avoid the customers and also not interfere
with the day to day running's of the business.
LOCATION 3:
We have chosen to shoot some of our scenes outside this
house and in the bedroom. The reason behind this choice was because we felt it
suited our narrative of seeing James's life and that also involved his room.
This location is very effective as we will be able to control many things like
no passer-by and also the fact we can make changes in layout for the room to
suit the scene. The bedroom would be a great location for the scene that
involves an emotional James following his rejection and to capture him on his
own strumming along the guitar. Also the bedroom is decorated to fit a male
teenagers room and the audience can familiarise themselves with that and also
clearly identify the location when watching.
LOCATION 4:
The local train station will be a great location to capture
the opening and closing scene involving James and his love interest Oriana.
